On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Bucha, the Kyiv suburb where retreating Russian troops reportedly executed hundreds of Ukrainian civilians last week, marking the latest effort by Zelensky to showcase atrocities committed by the Russian military.

Key Facts

“We want you to show the world what happened here. What the Russian military did,” Zelensky told reporters in Bucha on Monday, according to a translation provided by CNN.

Images of dead civilian bodies strewn across the streets of Bucha over the weekend drew international condemnation, and Bucha Mayor Anatoly Fedorur estimated Sunday Russian troops executed at least 280 civilians during their withdrawal from the town.

Zelensky’s visit to Bucha is his latest effort to bring international attention to Ukraine: He delivered a chilling video message during Sunday’s Grammy Awards and accused Russian forces of committing genocide against the Ukrainian people during a Sunday appearance on CBS.
